History of Cosmetics
The first evidence of using cosmetics was found during 4000 BC in ancient Egypt. They used to use cosmetics which were made up of harmful materials like white lead and mercury. Ancient Egyptians also had many types of equipment like Kohl, made up of soot, lead, burned almonds, copper, etc and was used for outlining the eyes as it was considered to be a repellent from evil spirits. The word ‘cosmetic’ has been derived from a group of female slaves known as ‘cosmetae’ who were responsible for all the cosmetic production in ancient Rome. Proof of fragrance usage like myrrh and frankincense is there in the Christian Bible.
